Best of the Box 7

By: Dave - March 22, 2010

New rule: if you read this post, leave a comment. So here are links to a few notable posts from this week’s posts in the MA boxes.

Box 1 – An example of why we love FPR: the current series presenting the scholarly take on the emergence of Yahweh worship in ancient Israel. So far you can read Part 1 (on monotheism), Part 2 (on Israelite polytheism), and Part 3 (contrasting El and Yahweh). More to follow. If you haven’t read the classic Canaanite Myth and Hebrew Epic (HUP, 1973) or a similar treatment, this series of posts should inspire you to do some reading.

Box 2 – As always, fierce competition in Box 2. I like A Middle Path Toward Theology at T&S (although I doubt there is presently any path leading to serious LDS theology) and BCC’s review of Nibley’s new book (an extended attempt to explicate one of the canonized illustrations in the Book of Abraham).

Box 3 – Try Adam, Eve, and the Garden of Eden. It could have been titled More Adventures in Mormon Sunday School. BOAP’s stock is rising fast in my book. Somehow, I had BOAP pegged as just another apologetic rag, but I was wrong.

Box 4 – I’ll go with Mormanity’s reflections on Luke 24.

Box 5 – If you are vaguely unhappy with the music in Sacrament Meeting, read this.

Box 6 – If you like Facebook, read this. I am not yet a Facebooker. I can deal with comments, but not Friends.

Box 7 – At Mormons and Science, interesting thoughts on Penfield and brain experiments.

  2. No “Outside the Box” entry this week?

  3. No, nothing really compelling outside the box this week. Or maybe I was just in a hurry.

  4. Thanks Dave. I spent the last couple weeks out of town and not tuned into the internet, so it’s nice to get a couple links that I should take a look at.

  14. Well, here’s a problem. I don’t like the new rule, and wanted to say something about it, but that made me follow the rule, and now I like it even less.

  15. I read the BOTB posts as well as the links. Thanks!

  16. It was more dignified to make a “rule” than to beg for comments. Mostly I just wanted to make sure someone out there was actually reading these BotB posts.

  17. Thanks Dave. I always miss things, and this helps me catch up.

  18. Oops, I missed the rule the first time I read the post. Sorry.

  19. What makes you think I’m going to follow your dumb rule? i mean…oh never mind.
