FARMS Responses to New Film Are Available on the Internet
Today, FARMS announced on its website that it would make two responses to The Bible vs. the Book of Mormon, a 66-minute documentary film produced by ”Living Hope Ministries,” available online in advance of their publication in the FARMS Review of Books.
Brant Gardner, a member of the Church living in New Mexico who has both graduate training in Mesoamerican studies and field experience in the relevant region, severely criticizes the film for its omissions, distortions, and oversimplifications. His response is scheduled to appear in the FARMS Review 17/2 in the near future, but, because we have received several inquiries about The Bible vs. the Book of Mormon, we have decided to make it immediately available on the Web as an efficient way of answering questions about the film.
FARMS provides links to reviews by both Brant Gardner and David Bokovoy.
It is worth reading these reviews even having not seen the film, if for no other reason than to gain insight into ways in which Latter-day Saints with experience in certain fields explain aspects of LDS beliefs.
FARMS Review 17:2 has been out for several weeks (but still 1/3 of a year behind its “2005″ issue date).

I think the availability of Bokovoy’s essay is new, and they just didn’t edit the previous announcement well.

Gardner’s review was posted on February 1, and Bokovoy’s review was posted on March 16.

David received the Brandeis’ Outstanding Teaching Fellow Award for 2005-2006, for his Hebrew Bible work. See
