I would add that the church seems to go on autopilot when we have a disable church Pres. In other words, GBH wasn't his own man until he became church Pres officially. Joseph Fielding Smith and David O. McKay lived similarly long lives, but they were in poor health in their final years. Edward Kimball, son of President Kimball, noted recently that President Hinckley "has been the effective leader of the church" since 1981.
