The Great “Niblet” Run-Off Election

Bloggernacle “Niblet” Awards 2005: Vote in the run-off election

Results are in for the Niblets. There have been a few outright victories, but many of the races have been within the margin of ballot-stuffing error. We are therefore going to have a final run-off vote.

Rationale? First, Wilfried’s “Coffee” post was mistakenly left off the ballot and so we had to re-run that category anyway. Second, “honest in all your dealings” doesn’t necessarily translate to blogpolls (half of the votes for me as best blogger came from my dad, sister, and best mate, all of whom don’t even read the blogs!) Yep, I know the game: one vote from home, one from work, one from your BlackBerry, and one from grandma. In a race as earth-shatteringly important as this, justice and truth must prevail!

Anyway, where polls were within 5% they are now in the run-off. The Great and Final Awards will be announced in the new year via a special Zeitcast (along with scintillating punditry and analysis). You have until January 7.

Here are the results of the “tight” races (outright winners will be announced on the Zeitcast):

1. Best “Big Islands” Blog (percentage; total vote)
BCC 34.9% 60
T&S 39% 67

2. Best Other Group Blog

Nine Moons 24.4% 38
New Cool Thang 19.2% 30

3. Best Solo Blog

Viva Ned Flanders 31.4% 49
Dave’s Mormon Inquiry 26.9% 42

4. Best Blogger
FMH Lisa 24.6% 43
Wilfried 20% 35

8. Worst Thing About the Bloggernacle 2005
Bannergate witchhunt 25% 41
Trolls 25% 41
“Conservative” vs. “Liberal” silliness 27.4% 45

10. Best Post
Why I Believe (LisaB: FMH) 26.8% 42
(+ “Coffee” by popular demand)

  1. I didn’t vote at all under “worst thing” because I’m used to liberal vs. conservative silliness, I know how to deal with trolls, and I wouldn’t call the problem with Bannergate the “witchhunt,” but rather the “lies.”

Best of luck to all the contestants.

  2. Hi Ann,
On the last poll there was a category for “BoH blog” as well as “Bannergate witchhunt.” Slightly more people felt that the witchhunt was worse than bannergate itself. To be precise:

Worst Thing About the Bloggernacle 2005

    Cliqueish navelgazing
    20.1% 33

    Banner of Heaven blog
    22% 36

    Bannergate witchhunt
    25% 41

    Trolls
    25% 41

    “Conservative” vs. “Liberal” silliness
    27.4% 45

  4. I’m glad people have read and found “Why I Believe” helpful and am glad even more people have been able to read it as a result of the contest, but could we instead have whichever post was the runner up compete against “Coffee” for best post? (Or just simply give it to Wilfried. I would have voted for it if it had been in the initial rounds.) Thanks, guys.

  5. Looking back, I guess I didn’t state my objection clearly. Seems a bit inappropriate to be voting on my testimony. Even though I’m in favor of it. :-)

  6. Your sudden attack of modesty is cute, Lisa. Don’t think it will help, though. I see right through your devious little “don’t vote for me” trick. :P And I’m still voting for Wilfried. Co-blogger loyalty and all, you know.

  7. Thanks for assuming I have ulterior motives, Kaimi. Just FYI, I voted for Wilfried’s post, too.

  8. Please ignore #5. That post is the reason I’ve continued visiting the bloggernacle. It is an inspiration.

    Sorry Lisa ;)

  9. Lisa,

But how do you know that my own comment isn’t a classic attempt at misdirection?

Now, a clever man would put the poison into his own goblet, because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given. I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But you must have known I was not a great fool, you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.

  10. Well, I’m glad to hear that, jjohnson. I’ve liked some of your comments.

Kaimi–Okay, I assumed, too. Based on previous experience w/ your natural cyncicism–rivaled perhaps only by my own.

  11. Kami, you have quoted one of the greatest lines from one of the best movies ever….and it shows why your comments can’t be trusted…or can they?

  12. If you followed the link from T&S, fear not, this election will be free and fair…and transparent! Indeed, we shall have the results verified by RT Carter, if he is so inclined.

  15. Ronan is using the same guys who did the Florida 2000 election count. A very reputable organization.

    Here’s a sample of their work: http://beta.stupidvideos.com/video/almost_stupid/florida_voting_machine/

  16. He he. So Jess, can we stack it in favor of FMH?
