The Last Word

I didn’t miss the party, did I? Anyway, if anyone’s still around, here’s another recent weblog appearance in the Bloggernacle, one that seems to point in a new direction: Unofficial Manifesto. This stylish 4-blog features a group of (correct me if I’m wrong) young, edgy artiste-types with personal interests in writing, music, and performance (based on the personal blogs of Arwyn, D-Train, Mike, and Pris) but who are using the new UM blog to post reflections on general Mormon topics and themes. Thus, recent posts on truth, Brigham’s place in LDS history, and the church is boring problem.

This raises an interesting general question: How many blogs should a blogger blog if a blogger can do blogs? Do you have one personal blog where everything goes, or do you make a specialized second (or third) blog for this or that interest or topic? You might join forces in a group blog for more visibility, but then do you keep or discard the personal blog? How much personal stuff do you put in a personal blog: is it a “this is me” blog where friends and family are the primary visitors, or a “publish to the world” blog that attracts readers from around the globe who share your specific interests and find your posts interesting enough to make you a regular stop? As more and more people make personal weblogs, more “blog genres” are emerging for personal and group blogs. I can’t quite place Unofficial Manifesto in a genre yet (maybe the “BCC goes to college but without any lawyers” genre?) but it looks interesting. Go pay them a visit.

Follow-up Notes:

Elder Barr’s latest letter home has been posted. It reveals the interesting fact that missionaries are only allowed to send out one email per week; other letters must apparently be handwritten and sent via snail mail. Ned Flanders scored with a post entitled The Double-Edged Sword of Mormon Anti-Intellectualism.
