Weekly Zeitgeist
Greetings bloglings!
Another fine Monday morning, and another fine Weekly Zeitgeist for you. Permit me to be your guide on a quick tour of the Bloggernacle this past week.
All I can say about this week is that at least it was relatively Schiavo-free. The April Fools posts were the highlight, with T&S, Millennial Star and BCC all doing their best to offend and annoy. Of course BCC excelled at this endeavor. New Cool Thang did a nice wrap-up, sparing me the agony of mocking poorly written satire. Other high/low lights:
- BCC’s little intern is a Marxist.
- Nate Oman inhaled.
- Justin subtly reworks Mormon Wasp, transforming into the Nauvoo Neighbor. Apparently this will “cultivate a friendly feeling towards all.” Bah! Next stop for Justin: the Winter Quarters Coupon Shopper.
- Alas, poor Kim Siever; I knew him, Horatio.
- There’s a new John Fowles in town. Prepare yourselves!!
- Grasshopper ponders the depths of eternity; his co-bloggers ponder…..???
Not so bad. There was also plenty of blog-poaching to be found, with of course Times and Seasons leading the way. Last week, I predicted Times and Seasons to win the prize. Through relentless poaching and (somewhat) inventive posts, the T&S Megalith did indeed capture the title, although in fairness I think there was a lot of competition. Top 5 themes were:
- Women in the Church;
- Polygamy;
- April Fool’s Day;
- Conference; and
- Zelph.
This week we shall witness STILL MORE discussion of women in the Church, pr0n, and conference-related scuttlebutt, as well as Catholicism and the letter of the law. Good week for the Iron Rodders out there. Curelom, my bloggernacle familiar,
whispers to me (and I agree) that next week’s Zeitgeist winner will be Millennial Star — the biggest Iron Rod blog going. Prepare yourselves for some hardlining!

My plan hasn’t worked. Far from cultivating a neighborly spirit, I’m making enemies.
I’ve long been a fan of the Coupon Shopper. It’s an essential primary source for understanding the laissez-faire economic system in Winter Quarters.

An early copy of the Shopper shows 10% off feed grain following Conference. Maybe you could post similar LDS discounts from time to time.

Steve, are you sure the Nauvoo Neighbor story isn’t just an April Fools joke that got out of hand? Inquiring minds need to know. And how long can this sort of thing go on? Aren’t we running out of historical LDS periodical titles to draw on?

Viva La Revolucion!!!

Dave, as usual the enigmatic Justin leaves us in the dark. But the fact that he remains the Neighbor makes me long for a Tatler to surface somewhere.
HL: a marxist intern…. great. Leave it to the proletariat to get all uppity about the bourgeoisie.

I have hundreds of LDS periodical titles to draw on if needs be.
Next stop: Prophwyd y jubili

For the record. I just figured out the ABYV’s April fools day post was an April fools day post. John is King.
