Weekly Zeitgeist

By: Steve - February 20, 2005

I have returned, to tell you all the tale of what happened this week in the Bloggernacle. First, the high/low lights, then the blog that captured the Naclegeist this week, the top five themes, and prophecy for the coming week.

I look into my hat and see….

  • Gaia at Feminist Mormon Housewives bursts onto the scene, with fire-breathin’, rootin’-tootin’ feminism that provokes a strong reaction at FMH and elsewhere. Men feel emasculated; women, suddenly empowered, are confused and saddened at their might.
  • Justin at Mormon Wasp posts on Slavery in Utah. Readers are surprised that the article describes only past events.
  • Yours Truly at BCC posts on the prerequisites for gospel discussion. Lurkers mistakenly interpret the article as an invitation to come out of the woodwork. Thankfully, they soon retreat from whence they came.
  • Ben S. at Millennial Star admits that he has no kids after five years of marriage. Readers suspect some sort of evil master plan at work.
  • Splendid Sun gets a tech upgrade. Readers await a content upgrade.
  • Guest blogging Faulconers at Various Stages post a sweet, sweet post on marraige. The bloggernacle emits a collective “aw, shucks.”
  • Sarah Marinara inappropriately posts one of our private phone calls on her site.

In sum: we hate men, slavery, elitism, kids, cynicism and privacy. Valentine’s Day came and went with nary a nod from us; we either hate love, or greeting card companies, or both. This week’s Zeitgeist winner was Feminist Mormon Housewives, as yours truly predicted last week with uncanny accuracy. The top five topics of interest were:

  1. Women in the Church;
  2. Women in the Church;
  3. Women in the Church;
  4. Pr0n; and
  5. Navel-gazing.

Can this really last? I predict this week that the femicraze will die down, replaced with more stoic doctrinal review and more intense scrutiny of our own cultural foibles. And SSM. I unabashedly predict that this week’s winner will be BCC.

  5. J., it’s all in good fun — I read Splendid Sun all the time and enjoy it. Still, it presented a nice target….

    Rosalynde: thanks! I enjoy rounding things up, so I guess it all works nicely.

  6. Some funny stuff, Steve.

    Don’t worry J. your content is already perfect — no upgrades are possible.

    And luckily, no lurkers will wander over here to get their feeings hurt. Alas, they apparently never leave the Big 3 (despite my shameless self-promotion attempts in your fine BCC post).

  7. J.:

    The Bloggernacle Times giveth with one columnist and taketh away with another. Such are the mysterious ways of TBT. In time you will come to appreciate this phenomenon.

  8. Still, it presented a nice target….

    Indeed, it did. Really, I thought this was absolutely hilarious…especially the coment about he taketh away.
